And, how do their interpretations differ from what educators consider original in the classroom context? Delving deeper, how do we go about teaching students how to be creative and to think critically when doing their own work?

CSU’s Affordable Learning Solutions (AL$) Webinar
A key goal of the CSU’s Affordable Learning Solutions (AL$) initiative http://als.csuprojects.org is to support faculty choosing quality course materials that are more affordable for their students. This webinar series is designed to support your campus communities implementing your own AL$ activities. With the Fall 2013 textbook adoption cycle upon many of us, the webinar series can be particularly useful.
AL$ launched the Rent Digital program which offers students the option to rent digital versions of textbooks at a cost savings of 60% or more off the price of purchasing the new print textbook http://als.csuprojects.org/rentdigital . Through CSU’s agreements with Cengage Learning, CourseSmart, Barnes & Noble, Follett, Norton, and Schlager Publishers, faculty and students have access to about 20,000 popular e-textbooks at discounted prices for fall 2013.
AL$-Rent Digital Webinar Series: The webinars provide an overview of AL$, share examples of successful CSU campus and system efforts to lower the cost of course materials, and demonstrate commercial eReader tools provided by publishers and e-textbook distributors. We will also dedicate time to address your questions, comments, or concerns.
Webinar #8: AL$, CSU Library Services, and SAGE Publisher: CSU libraries provide exceptional resources and services that can be used as instructional materials and the materials are FREE for students. Learn about the recent library innovations that are available to you and your campus. Also, SAGE publisher will present their affordability program for CSU’s criminal justice and related programs, with most of their digital textbooks in the Rent Digital program costing under $35.
Agenda
- Welcome and AL$ Overview (10 minutes)
- CSU Digital Library Services and Resources (20 minutes)
- SAGE Publishing (20 minutes)
- Summary, Discussion, and Looking Ahead (10 min)
